DIY made easy.

After poking around on Pinterest for a while, I saw a post that lead me to DIY Confession’s blog. It was there that I saw a home made recipe to get rid of hard water/calcium buildup. The town I live in has ridiculously hard water. It is something that I am unfamiliar with since I grew up in a home with a well. Cleaning our sink does very little here to remove calcium. The calcium is on everything and has ruined its fair share of humidifiers. It bothered me pretty bad to know that my kitchen would be spotless except for that gross reddish colored calcium on my faucet. I thought that if products on the market meant to remove calcium didn’t work, why would her concoction? I gave it a try anyway. As she does, I filled a spray bottle with the following:

  1. A little less than half fill the bottle with white vinegar (I only had apple cider vinegar and it worked just fine but stinks really bad).
  2. Lemon concentrate. (I used what was left in my little lemon squeezey thing.)
  3. Generously add any dish detergent you use.

Then:

  1. Shake…
  2. Spray.
  3. Let it sit for about a half hour.
  4. Scrub, rinse, and whala!

Below are my before and after photos. It is pretty embarrassing but I certainly know that I am not alone in this problem anymore!

Finally!

Muuuuuch better. Yes, there is a little bit left, but nothing that round two can’t take care of. FINALLY something that works. Although, I have to warn you, if you do choose to make this spray, use white vinegar and hopefully you have lemon scented dish soap because mine smelled horrible. So bad in fact, I had to open a window….in December.

Here is the before and after side by side. You be the judge.
